TINKA KURTI

The icon of the Albanian acting, the Lady of the Scene!

“PEOPLE`S ARTIST” – “GREAT MASTER”

HONORARY CITIZENS OF SHKODRA!

Born on December 17, 1932 in Sarajevo to an art-loving family. Her mother was one of the leading actresses of the Sarajevo National Theater. Her family moved when she was five years old to the city of Shkodra. Here she finished his seven-year education and in 1947 she left for Tirana to study at the Polytechnic of Tirana. Coincidentally - as she herself would say years later - she would move to the Drama Branch at the Art High School. But her studies would be brutally interrupted after she was expelled from school for "manifestation of liberal performances".

Returning to Shkodra in 1948 will find her as an employee in the museum of the district of the city. In the same year she starts activating as an amateur actress with the House of Culture where she will be chosen by the director Andrea Skanjeti for her first appearance on stage, when she was only 16 years old, in the melodrama "Dasëm Shkodrane" where she performs a "small" role, that of the Bride.

With the establishment of the Professional Theater "Migjeni" in 1949, she will be active in this Theater as a semi-professional actress being one of the ten founding actors of this Theater. Her first "serious" part will be in Chekhov's drama "Engagement" (Fejesa). Her transition to a completely professional actress will coincide with the arrival in this Theater of the author Kol Jakova who staged for the first time in Shkodra the drama "Our Land" (Toka Jone) where Tinka will play the role of File. With this role she will be evaluated with the Festival Cup as "The Best Actress of the Republic" in the 1st Festival of the Albanian Theater. Around 260 theater roles would continue, roles for which would be awarded three Cups at Theater festivals. Here we can mention her masterful interpretation in the role of Elder Nice in the drama "General of the Dead Army" (Gjenerali i ushtrise se vdekur), by Piro Mani (People's Artist), in the role of Grandmother in the drama "Blood of Arber" (Gjaku i Arberit) by Fadil Kraja, in the role of Loke in the drama "Our Land" by Kol Jakova, in the role of Vales in the drama "Irkutase Story " (Histori Irkutase), in the roles of Lady Macbeth or Desdemona in Shakespeare's world masterpieces and many others. Her most recent role will be that of Rosalia Solimena in Eduardo de Filippo's "Filumena Maturano" staged by the National Theater troupe in late February 2009.

There will be many roles too that Tinka Kurti has played in cinematography, full of 95. Her first film will coincide with the first entirely Albanian film "Tana" in 1958 where she will play the role of the protagonist of the film, as Tana. A whole gallery of roles would continue, such as the role of Mother Pashako in the movie "Stars of the long nights" (Yje te neteve te gjata), the role of the Mother of the boy in the movie "Happy Couple" (Cifti i lumtur), a role for which she will also receive the Festival Medal as "Best Actress" at the 1st Albanian Film Festival held from 5 to 11 April 1976 held in Tirana, the role of Sinjorina Mancini in the film "Girls with red ribbons" (Vajzat me kordele te kuqe), the role of Dila in "Red pledge” (Besa e Kuqe), the role of the Mother of Meri in the film "Death of the Horse" (Vdekja e kalit), the role of the Mother in the film "Mother's Heart" (Zemra e nenes), a role for which she will receive the 1st Prize at the International Film Festival in Salerno (Italy).

Also she interprets masterfully in two Kosova films: "When Remziu returns" - Remziu's mother and "When the soul changes life". Her most recent role will be in the movie "The World" (2014). In 1994 she rightfully entered the Encyclopedia of the American Biographical Institute as one of the 5,000 most prominent women in the world. The same Institute in 1996 proclaimed her "Great Woman of 1996". On December 17, 2007 she will be invited to Washington (USA) to place a marble slab with her name on this Institute. In 2001, the city of Shkodra will be declared "Honorary Citizen". Today, the  “Gymnasium” School in Lekbibaj, an Albanian-Swedish Theater in Malmoe (Sweden) and a Cinema in Durrës bear her name. To appreciate her role in the Albanian cinematography in the XI Festival held from 23 to 27 April 2000 in Tirana will be awarded the Grand Career Award. In 2003, the director Esat Teliti made the documentary "Tinka" which will be shown in honor of this great artist in the cinema "Millennium" in Tirana on the occasion of its 71st anniversary. Married to Palok Kurti, the leader of the first music band in Shkodra. In addition to the Awards mentioned, she is also the youngest actress. No one before  at her age 28-year-old was awarded the title of "Merited Artist" in 1961, or any title at all.

Later, for her great artistic merits, Tinka Kurti will be awarded the high title "People's Artist". She will also receive the medal of the Order "Grand Master" awarded by the President of the Republic of Albania.
