STARS OF ALBANIAN SCENE | DRITA PELINKU (1926-2013)

 

Drita Pelinku (December 3, 1926, Vlora - October 2, 2013, Tirana)

She was one of the most prominent actresses of the Albanian scene, director and pedagogue. She graduated from the “Nana Mbretneshe” (Mother Queen women's school) in 1944 and then went on to the “Jordan Misja” art school for theater where she was the only female. She started working as a professional actress at the “State Theater” (later called Teatri Popullor) in 1946. Since 1976 she has been teaching scenic art at the Academy of Arts. In 1982 she made her debut on the stage of the “Petro Marko” Theater in Vlora as a director with the drama “Immortality”. Some of the first comedies and dramas where she has performed in the Albanian theater are: "Sliding", "Arturo Ui", "The Strange", "Lady of the Guesthouse", "Jolly Women of Windsor", "Artan", etc. 

 In cinematography she appeared first with a small role in "Tana" (1958), and then in "The Man with the Cannon", "When the Foundations Were Laid", where she plays the role of Bude, then in "Girls with Red Ribbons", "Radio Station", "Beyond the stone walls", "Endless words", "Shpresa", etc. As an actress of theater and cinematography, she has over 150 roles, among which more than half are female leading roles from national and world dramaturgy. As one of the founders of the National Theater she has made an important contribution and is the author of many biographical publications for artists of the Albanian scene. For her special contributions, Drita Pelinku was awarded by the President of the Republic the order "Grand Master", "Career Award" and also the title "Merited Artist" (1986), the award "Ismail Qemali" (1996), while the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Biographies has selected among the 500 most influential leaders in the world. Recently, the city of her birth has honored her as an Honorary Citizen of Vlora and the President of the Republic has awarded her the highest title "Honor of the Nation"
