LLAZAR SILIQI (1924 - 2001)

Writer, well-known poet and screenwriter!

He was born in Shkodra on December 16, 1924. The son of the patriot and well known Albanian Risto Siliqi, former editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Shqypnia e re" which began publishing in the early 20th century. He took an active part in the ranks of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Movement and was interned by the German Nazis in the Concentration Camp in Pristina. He completed his higher studies in Moscow at the Gorky Institute at the League of Writers and Artists of the Soviet Union. Deals with poetry from a young age, from school benches starting from the time of the war. After the war he held various positions in literary bodies as secretary of the Writers' League for Literature. He wrote many poems where he stood out with the one entitled "Prishtina". 

 

He is the author of the libretto of the first Albanian Opera "Mrika". He was closely associated with cinematography from the beginning and wrote several screenplays for documentaries and feature films. He is the author or co-author of screenplays in about 10 documentaries and two feature films. Among the scenarios of the documentary films that have made the most echoes we can mention: "Rruga e lavdishme / The glorious road" - 1952 / "Drite mbi Shqiperi / Light over Albania" - 1958 / "Lulezo Shqiperi / Blossoming Albania" - 1959 / "Ringjallje / Resurrection" - 1961 / "Lumja ti moj Shqiperi" - 1978 / "Ndre Mjeda" - 1966 / "Militant writer" - 1984. 

 

Collaborated in writing in the screenplay of the joint feature film "Fortuna" (1959) and wrote the screenplay for another well-known film "Commissar of Light" - 1966. He passed away on May 26, 2001 in Tirana.
