BUJAR LAKO (1946 - 2016)
Actor of Albanian theater and cinematography
Born on June 9, 1946 in Lozhan, Korça. In 1972 he graduated from the Higher Institute of Arts and immediately after a year he became an actor in the “People's Theater” (Teatri Popullor). In the Theater he has performed in about 70-80 roles, among which in the plays: Chekhov's "Bear", Emanuel Robles "Montserrat", Mrozhek's "Summer Day", "The Tomb", Byhner's "Death of Danton". For his skill and artistic values in 1982 he will be awarded the Order "Naim Frashëri" of the First Class.
In cinemas he will have fewer roles played, about 20. His first role in cinematography will be that of Misto in the film "Ne fillim te veres" in 1975, but the role that will make him known to the general public will be that of Martin Kreka, the Party Secretary, in the film "Përballimi" in 1976. This is the role for which he will be honored with the "Special Award" by the Jury of the 2nd Albanian Film Festival. Bujar Lako will later have masterful performances in the films "General Gramafoni" (1978) and "Balle per balle" (1979) respectively in the roles of Halit Berat and Mujo Bermema. The performance in the role of clarinetist Halit Berati will show in front of the public that the artistic prudence of Bujar Lako had reached high levels. His masterful and theatrical performance in the movie "General Gramafoni" in two well-known popular pieces will remain in the public mind, such as the folk songs "Këngë për Çerçiz Topullin" and "Qiraxhiu i Grebene" , which impress the public that behind the clarinet is Bujar Lako himself and not the Grand Master, “People's Artist”, Laver Bariu.
For this role he would be awarded the Festival Cup as "Best Actor" at the III Albanian Film Festival that took place in Tirana from 21 to 28 April 1979. At the IV Film Festival held in Tirana from April 20 to 26, 1981, would be awarded the "Special Prize" for the role of Mujo Bermema in the film "Balle per balle". For both performances he would be awarded the First Class Republic Prize. We also find Bujar Lako in the role of speaker in the musical collection of Aleksandër Peçi "Albanian Wailing" dedicated to the "black year 1997". In this summary Bujar Lako recites parts from "The Epic of Gilgamesh". This review will be the first presentation of modern Albanian music in North America. His son Bojken Lako, in addition to being a well-known singer for the Albanian public, will also be the director of the comedy "Harvi" by Mary Chase, where he will play the role of Elud Pi Dodi.
